Success Stories

$17,600 in annual savings

At a local gun maker, Made-to-Print's reengineering efforts helped fix a screw-loosening problem.

First, we endorsed the manufacturer's idea of switching from a slotted to socket head for improved tightening. Then, we suggested less expensive cold heading by an outside vendor to replace in-house screw machining.

The result, no more loosening and $17,600 saved per year.

Repair time cut by 90%

A performance automotive equipment manufacturer was spending an average of 20 minutes removing socket cap screws with a locking thread patch when overhauling aluminum oil pumps. Repairers applied heat to soften the nylon thread patch and speed the process, but when the screws came out the internal aluminum threads were damaged.

Our diagnosis: the locking thread patch, which was supposed to keep the screw from backing out, was too hard and generated too much pressure on entry. As a result, the prevailing torque smeared and galled the soft internal aluminum thread.

We recommended pre-applied Loctite as a solution. It stays soft and flexible during assembly, causing no damage to the internal threads. It typically locks within 48 hours. After testing, the manufacturer chose a medium duty grade for easier future overhauls. Fastener removal now takes just 2 minutes -- a 90% improvement in repair time!

Custom assembly in six weeks

Due to a sudden surge in demand, a North American stove manufacturer, a division of a European company, was in immediate need of stove handles. Its usual source couldn't ship them quickly enough.

The handles consist of four parts -- threaded rod, an internally threaded handle receiver, a nut housing for the butt end and a turned and painted hardwood handle.

We tapped our supplier network to put together a top-quality assembly under tight time constraints.

We delivered the first shipment after only 6 weeks, without interrupting production.
